Most hydraulic-line drawings do not say "DIN 3015 clamp" — they say a brand part number, because the original designer picked it from a STAUFF or HYDAC catalogue. When that part becomes a lead-time or price problem, the question is always the same: what exactly do I need to match so another supplier's clamp drops into the same position? The answer is five parameters, and all of them are readable from the brand part number.
A DIN 3015 clamp is fully defined by five parameters: standard part (DIN 3015-1 light / -2 heavy / -3 twin), group size, clamp bore (pipe OD), body material and insert option. The standard fixes the geometry, OD steps and bolt pattern, so any certified manufacturer's clamp with the same five parameters is dimensionally interchangeable — brand is not one of the parameters. What cannot be cross-referenced: proprietary non-DIN series, brand-specific rails or weld plates in non-standard dimensions, and special elastomer compounds.

§ 01 Why Brand Names Appear on Drawings
DIN 3015 is a public standard: it fixes the two-shell clamp geometry, the OD steps, the group sizes and the bolt positions. Any manufacturer can produce to it and many do. But catalogues are easier to design from than standards, so drawings inherit brand part numbers — and procurement inherits a single-source dependency that the engineering never required.

§ 02 The Five Cross-Reference Parameters
Every DIN 3015 clamp — from any brand — is fully defined by these five values:

§ 03 Brand Range → Standard Map

§ 04 What Does Not Transfer
Three things break a clean cross-reference:
- Proprietary series — ranges designed outside the standard (special shapes, saddles, non-DIN twin arrangements) have no neutral designation. They need a dimensioned drawing and an engineering check, not a part-number swap.
- Non-standard mounting systems — DIN 3015 weld plates and hex bolts are standardised, but brand rail systems and stacking kits sometimes use their own dimensions. Check the rail profile before assuming the clamp-to-rail interface matches; see mounting hardware options.
- Special elastomer compounds — a standard body in PP or PA cross-references cleanly, but a brand-specific fire-retardant, silicone-free or conductive compound must be matched by property, not by name. Ask for the compound datasheet and match hardness, temperature range and certification (e.g. UL 94, silicone-free declaration).
§ 05 Writing the Equivalent RFQ
A cross-reference RFQ that any DIN 3015 manufacturer can quote accurately contains:
- The five parameters — standard part, group size, clamp bore, body material, insert option — plus mounting hardware items
- The original brand part number — as a checking reference, so the supplier can verify the decode independently
- Quantities and delivery schedule — MOQ and price break behaviour differ far more between suppliers than the clamps do
- Documentation level — material certificates (e.g. EN 10204 3.1) for certified scopes, RoHS/REACH declarations where required
- Application context — vibration environment and temperature range, so the supplier can flag where a Part 2 heavy clamp or a different insert is the better fit

Evidence and decision boundary
- Direct evidence
- DIN 3015 defines clamp families; manufacturer catalogues define their own codes, dimensions, materials and hardware. A shared DIN reference does not prove two brands are interchangeable.
- Engineering inference
- Cross-reference only after comparing series, pipe OD, body geometry, material, inner profile, bolt and plate, rail interface, torque, temperature and approvals. Record every deviation.
- Typical or indicative value
- Brand-equivalence tables are search aids, not approved substitutions. The offered drawing, bill of materials and project deviation approval govern.
