SS316 Trefoil Cable Cleat RFQ: Offshore Wind Price Drivers

WEC-KB-178Sourcing & FAQPublished 2026-08-26By Wade ZhangKeyword SS316 trefoil cable cleat RFQ price drivers

An offshore SS316 trefoil cable cleat does not have one meaningful project price until the cable bundle, short-circuit duty, fixing arrangement, stainless hardware, liner, evidence package and order basis are defined. A useful RFQ asks suppliers to quote the same configuration, rather than comparing visually similar cleats with different test and documentation boundaries.

At a Glance

For a comparable quotation, provide cable outside diameters and tolerances, trefoil geometry, peak short-circuit current and duration, cleat spacing or design basis, mounting surface and fasteners, SS316/316L body and hardware requirement, liner, environmental exposure, IEC 61914 evidence, drawings, inspection documents, destination and quantity. Public list prices cannot replace these inputs.

Best for
Offshore wind OEM, EPC, cable-system and procurement teams comparing SS316 trefoil cleat offers for towers, transition pieces, J-tubes and exposed marine routes.
Not suitable for
A substitute for cable-system short-circuit calculations, project approval of spacing, proof that a named product passed IEC 61914, or a confirmed Weique price, MOQ or lead time.
RFQ checks
cable OD and tolerance, fault current and duration, spacing basis, mounting geometry, body and hardware grade, liner, corrosion exposure, evidence, documents, quantity and destination
Information needed
cable data sheet, route drawing, calculated fault duty, fixing pitch, support detail, material specification, document list, order quantity, packaging and destination

§ 01 Why an RFQ cannot start from a list price

The quoted item is an assembly and evidence package, not only a stainless casting. Cable size changes geometry; fault duty and fixing pitch change restraint demand; hardware, liner, mounting and documents change the supplied configuration. A list price observed elsewhere is not evidence of the same scope.

§ 02 Cable OD and tolerance define the physical size

Provide the outside diameter of each single-core cable, its tolerance and the intended trefoil arrangement. Identify cable jacket material and whether a liner is required. Nominal conductor size alone is insufficient because cables with the same electrical rating can have different overall diameters.

§ 03 Short-circuit duty and spacing drive verification

IEC 61914 covers requirements and tests for cable cleats and intermediate restraints. State peak current, duration, conductor arrangement, fixing pitch and mounting condition used by the project calculation. A report is relevant only when its tested arrangement can be compared with the project case.

§ 04 Stainless grade, hardware and liner must be explicit

Write whether SS316 or 316L is required for the body and whether fasteners must be A4-70, A4-80 or another approved set. ISO 3506-1 addresses stainless fastener properties but not the installed clamp force or fatigue capacity of the complete cleat. Liner compatibility remains a separate RFQ field.

§ 05 Mounting geometry changes what is supplied

State mounting surface, hole pattern, bracket thickness, access and interface insulation. Transition-piece, J-tube and tower routes can require different brackets even when the cable bundle is unchanged. Ask for a controlled outline drawing.

§ 06 Documents and inspection are part of the quotation

Define material certificates, dimensional report, surface declaration, IEC 61914 report, drawing, batch traceability, packing photographs and third-party inspection. DNV offshore-wind corrosion guidance provides context but does not certify a particular cleat.

§ 07 Quantity affects production and logistics, not a public promise

State prototype, sample and production quantities separately, with packaging, destination and sequence. These inputs can affect production, inspection and freight. No price, MOQ or lead-time number is given because no current company record supports one.

§ 08 Compare offers on one common basis

Normalize cable range, materials, liner, tested arrangement, mounting kit, documents, inspection, packaging and Incoterm. Record exclusions as open actions. The lowest visible unit price may omit essential hardware or evidence.

Before issue, complete the wind-turbine cable cleat RFQ template and check the supplier evidence against the IEC 61914 test-report review guide.

Evidence and decision boundary

Direct evidence
IEC 61914:2021 defines requirements and tests for cable cleats and intermediate restraints. ISO 3506-1 defines properties for stainless fasteners within its scope. Neither source publishes a Weique quotation or proves that an unspecified cleat passed a project test.
Engineering inference
Cable geometry, fault duty, spacing, mounting, material, documents and quantity should be normalized before comparing offers. Final suitability still depends on the project calculation, offered assembly and reviewed evidence.
Typical or indicative value
Any public price, MOQ, lead time, spacing or load remains indicative unless tied to a current quotation, controlled drawing, tested arrangement and project conditions.

Verified primary sources

The sources establish cable-cleat test scope, stainless-fastener scope and offshore-wind context. They do not publish or validate a product price.
