Incoming inspection is the last low-cost point to catch wrong clamp size, wrong insert material, missing A4 fasteners or incomplete certificates before parts are released to nacelle, tower or offshore installation teams. This checklist gives procurement and QA teams a practical way to inspect wind turbine pipe clamps and cable cleats at receipt.

Check the shipment against the PO, drawings and RFQ data: quantity, product code, pipe or cable OD, insert material, body material, coating, bolt grade, surface condition, dimensions, batch labels, certificates and packaging. Do not release mixed or undocumented parts to site.

§ 01 — Start with purchase order and packing list

Compare the supplier packing list with the purchase order before opening individual bags. The product code, quantity, pipe OD or cable OD, insert compound, material, coating and document requirements should match the approved RFQ. If the order includes a complete marine-grade DIN 3015 clamp kit, verify that clamp halves, baseplates, cover plates and fasteners are listed as one controlled set.

§ 02 — Verify size, markings and product family

Check that each bag or box carries the correct clamp series and size range. DIN 3015 heavy, light, twin and stand-off clamps should not be mixed under one line item. Cable cleats should show the intended trefoil or single-cable size range. Where the marking is not moulded or stamped, attach a receiving label before the parts enter warehouse stock.

§ 03 — Inspect body material, insert and fasteners

For PA66-GF, PP, aluminum or stainless bodies, inspect colour, moulding quality, cracks, burrs and deformation. For inserts, confirm NBR, EPDM, FKM or project-specific material against the fluid, temperature and cable jacket requirement. Fasteners should have visible grade or material marking such as 8.8, A4-70 or A4-80; unmarked bolts should be held for review.

§ 04 — Check coating and corrosion condition

Galvanized and zinc-flake coated parts should arrive with uniform coverage and no red rust. Stainless parts may show light handling marks, but pitting, deep scratches or mixed-carbon-steel contamination should be documented. Offshore C5-M or transition-piece orders should be checked against the requested salt spray or material traceability documents.

§ 05 — Sample-check critical dimensions

For each batch, sample a small number of parts and measure bore size, mounting hole spacing, cover plate length, bolt length and baseplate fit. For cable cleats, check the liner opening and trefoil envelope against the cable OD. Record actual values when first-article or customer receiving inspection is required.

§ 06 — Review certificates before release to site

Do not release the batch until the required documents are present: dimensional drawing, inspection report, EN 10204 3.1 material certificate where requested, salt spray report where specified, and a packing list that ties the batch label to the shipment. Missing documents are easier to fix before installation than after a turbine is closed.

§ 07 — Quarantine and report non-conforming lots

If any item does not match the PO, isolate the affected lot and photograph the label, product, packaging and defect. Do not mix accepted and rejected parts. Send the evidence with the PO number, drawing revision and requested corrective action so the supplier can confirm replacement, concession or rework.

Evidence and decision boundary

Direct evidence
ISO 2859-1 addresses AQL-indexed sampling for continuing lots; ISO 2859-2 addresses isolated lots. ISO 14253-1 covers measurement decision rules. These standards do not choose critical characteristics for a wind-turbine clamp order.
Engineering inference
Incoming inspection should connect drawing revision, certificate identity, dimensions, material, hardware, finish and functional checks to defect severity and supplier history. Safety-critical or configuration-critical items may require controls beyond random visual sampling.
